The NDMP Module enhances backup performance and maximizes data transfer over the network, while maintaining centralized backup administration, and providing fast, online backup and restore of data. Available for UNIX, Windows, and Linux, the NDMP Module provides a full-featured solution for NAS devices including local backup, automation control, direct access restores, and Dynamically Shared Devices.

Applications

Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP) allows Snap Server systems be a centralized backup server with local or distributed tape resources and eliminates the need for remote backup agents. NDMP supports three methods of backup over the local area network: Local NDMP backup, Remote NDMP backup, and 3-Way NDMP backup. Each of these configurations and applications of NDMP are discussed further below. Local NDMP Local NDMP allows a Backup Host with an NDMP Client to control the data management catalog and backup processing while the NDMP Host with the NDMP Server controls the tape resources. This allows a single Snap Server to act as the central backup host while the backup data is transferred locally to tape. Local NDMP provides central backup management and avoids the need to transfer backup data over the network to a central Backup Host. Remote NDMP Remote NDMP allows a Backup Host with an NDMP Client to control the data management catalog, backup processing, and the tape resources while the NDMP Host with the NDMP server transfers the backup data to the Backup Host for tape backup. Remote NDMP provides central backup management and centralization of tape resources.   3-Way NDMP 3-Way NDMP allows a Backup Host with an NDMP Client to control the data management catalog and backup processing while one NDMP Host with an NDMP Server transfers backup data to another NDMP Host with an NDMP server and tape resources. 3-Way NDMP provides central backup management while allowing the distribution and centralization of tape resources.
